BC Persian Television is a news channel in the Persian language that belongs to the BBC. It started airing on January 14, 2009, and can be watched via satellite or online. The channel’s main audience is the 120 million Persian speakers living in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The Iranian government has a history of harassing and intimidating the family members of the BBC Persian staff. Mark Thompson, the director of BBC, has stated that the Iranian authorities have been using “new disturbing tactics” to increase the levels of intimidation aimed at the BBC Persian staff.
